EN: Kumamoto is the capital of the prefecture with the same name, it has more than 730 000 inhabitants and it offers several tourist spots which should not be missed. Local castle is probably the most famous and the most important one, as it belongs to the list of Three Famous Castles of Japan. The main building was, however, rebuilt from scratch in 1960, as it was before destroyed in one of the uprisings. It’s still quite a large castle with spacious premises, but unlike Himeji or Matsumoto, it’s not original.
SK: Kumamoto je hlavným mestom rovnomennej prefektúry na ostrove Kjúšú, má viac ako 730 000 obyvateľov a ponúka viacero turistických atrakcií, ktoré by návštevník Japonska nemal prehliadnuť. V prvom rade je to lokálny hrad, ktorý patrí medzi tri najvýznamnejšie v krajine (spoločne s Matsumoto a Himeji) a to aj napriek tomu, že samotná hlavná budova bola v roku 1960 zrekonštruovaná po tom, čo ju niekoľko dekád predtým vypálili vojaci pri jednej z bitiek povstania Satsuma.
EN: As usually, there is a museum inside of the main keep, the visitors can find out a lot of information about the history of the castle and the whole prefecture. Most of the annotations can be found in English, which is a good news – many tourist attractions lack these. I also visited the Suizen-Ji Jōju-en garden, which also hosts the Izumi Shrine. The garden belongs to the list of ‘historic sites of scenic beauty’, so once you are in Kumamoto, it’s definitely worth a visit. It’s a shame I didn’t have enough time to climb up the Mount Aso volcano, as I had a long return journey to Osaka ahead of me.
SK: Vnútri hradu je už tradične múzeum, v ktorom sa návštevníci dozvedia detailné informácie nie len o hrade, ale aj o histórii celej prefektúry. Drvivá väčšina artefaktov má popisy aj v angličtine, čo je potešiteľné. Ešte pred návštevou hradu som sa ale vybral do záhrady Suizen-ji Jōju-en, ktorá vo svojom areáli okrem iného skrýva aj kaplnku Izumi. Záhrada patrí medzi “historic site of scenic beauty”, keď ste už v meste, navštívte ju. Je škoda, že som nemal čas vybrať sa aj k vulkánu Mount Aso, musel som sa kvôli práci vrátiť späť do Osaky, čo nebola práve krátka cesta. Zvyšok fotiek nižšie.
